Need a free HTML editor, any recommendations?

This TechSoup member asks, Can anyone recommend a freeware or open source portable HTML editor for use on a USB flash drive? The only ones I could find are NVU, but I don’t like how it rearranges my source code, and HTML Portable Editor which doesn’t have a preview option. Any other suggestions?

Any ideas on a tool to create a form library?

This user would like to create a form library for our agency. (Word and PDF files.) Here are his limitations and preferences:

  • We’re a smaller agency with multiple sites and are not networked.
  • Many of our staff have very limited computer skills.
  • I’d like it to be easy to search and navigate.
  • I’d like other staff to be able to add forms.
  • I’d like it to be easily editable from a browser.

Looking to recycle toner cartridges

From the TechSoup Forums:

We’re a non-profit auxilary of a large University w/over 1,100 employees. We’d like to heavily promote each office to recycle their tonor cartridges, and then *hopefully* work with a tonor recycler exclusively to get a small stipend back for our green building efforts. Can anyone recommend a vendor to facilitate this?

Think you’re so smart? Too geeky for your own good? Donate your tech-savvy brain to TechSoup!

Think you’re so smart? Too geeky for your own good? Donate your tech-savvy brain to the TechSoup community of nonprofit staff members through our Donate Your Brain RSS feed!

Does the live organ-donor prospect frighten you? Well, we’d be equally thrilled if you just let us borrow your brain for a few seconds every now and then.

Welcome to TechSoup’s Donate Your Brain channel.

In case you don’t know us, we are TechSoup: a one-stop resource for technology needs by providing free information, resources, and support. In addition to online information and resources, we offer a discounted and donated product philanthropy service for nonprofits called TechSoup Stock. More about our services here: http://www.techsoup.org/about/about.cfm

This Donate Your Brain channel provides you tech experts with the opportunity to help nonprofit staff members with their tech questions, by making it easy for you to solve end-user problems that should only take you a few keystrokes to answer, (but would otherwise take a good chunk of time to track down a solution). We know you have specific insight into these tech questions, and we would love for you to share your dazzling expertise with our nonprofit community.

We created this feed to give you an edited, easy and quick path to the nonprofit community’s tech questions. This RSS feed gathers together questions, asked by nonprofit staff members about specific technology products, applications, and configurations that come up on TechSoup forums and related sites. Only questions that are likely to have quick and easy answers are selected from the TechSoup forums (and other outside sources) and included in the feed.

Please note that we are only using this blog to provide an RSS feed to you, as a channel or a one-way communication from us to you. We wanted to create a channel for these select questions from the nonprofit community for you, the uber-geeky elite, here, for you to subscribe to via your RSS reader.

To get started, just add the Donate Your Brain feed to your RSS feeder.

You can decide how much of your brain you want to donate.

When you see a question that interests you, we ask that you respond to it by clicking the “Answer it here” link. You will then be magically teleported to the TechSoup forums or another outside related site. Please do not try to respond to the posts on this blog, because there is simply no way to do this; and that would be very frustrating for you.

In order to respond to these questions, you will need to register for TechSoup.org or the other site that we direct you to. Don’t worry, this will be a quick, free and easy process. We won’t be selling you to any spammers, we promise!

Can’t wait? Want to help out right now? After you grab the RSS feed, slap it into your reader, spread the word about this feed to a few of your fellow Brainiacs.

Need help with Outlook’s Calendar Synchronization

This person needs to synch Outlook with PCs, handhelds (both Blackberry and Palm pilot) and the calendars must be accessible using all three types of devices. They also need to integrate the Raisers Edge database program into the calendar. She received conflicting information:

I was told that in order to meet our demands that we would have to purchase the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition or the Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 (including 5 CALS). In your opinion, which server would best suit our needs? I was also told that in purchasing the Exchange Server, it would make more sense to upgrade our MS Office 2003 to the MS Office 2007 to ensure greatest functionality. Is this true?
