Why can’t the laptops get IP addresses from the range extender?

This user’s range extender problem has extended his range of knowledge, so to speak. The user has a Cisco wre54g range extender on the network, set up with a class A IP address. The extender has successfully picked up and bridged the Wireless access point. Yet soon thereafter, the extender loses its link; it physically can see the access point, but is unable to give the laptops IP addresses. The extender gets a full signal, but cannot send the IPs to the laptops.

This user has tried Extendersa without encryption, removing all security, attempting one machine at a time, and disabling other wireless devices, all to no avail.
