What to do when suddenly Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Pro’s printers go MIA? This TechSoup user is using Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Pro on Windows XP Home. There’s been no problems until recently when the Distiller and Acrobat printer suddenly disappeared from the printer list. The “Add Printer” function does not work, as Windows can’t find the printers.
The user can’t print to Distiller or convert files to PDF. All Acrobat icons are still in other programs. There doesn’t appear to be any viruses causing the error. Updates and patches from Adobe for 8.1 won’t install, and the user gets the error message:
Error 1334
“crossproductlinkerror.html” file not found in “Data1.cab”
The patch from Microsoft for the 32 and 64 bit encryption problems that cause Acrobat printers to fail will not install either. The error message says that the update is not a Win32 update.
The user has also tried the Adobe repair installation, but this aborts near the end with the message, “File missing. formdesigner.ini6…..’ not found in “Data1.cab.” However, the user can still open and run FormDesigner. The user had to re-install one other printer (an HP all-in-one), but the other three printers (laser and inkjet) are intact.
